This washed Yirgacheffe is a single-farmer lot produced by Mr. Bekele Gemeda in Worka village, about 13 kilometers from Gedeb, Ethiopia. Bekele is a father of 11 and manages 9.5 hectares of coffee farmland with the help of his children and two eldest sons. Coffee is the family’s primary source of income, supporting several generations who work together across the farm. Grown between 1,780 and 2,100 meters above sea level, this lot features local Ethiopian heirloom varieties.

About the farm: The coffee is picked ripe and depulped the same day. There is usually a fermentation period of 8–12 hours in open-air tanks, then washed in water channels to remove the mucilage. The coffee seeds will be spread on raised beds to dry for 5–15 days, depending on the weather.
